Why the "MANG"?
Derived from the postcode of the region that Peerick Wines calls home, the MANG is a celebration of the gorgeous Warrenmang area within the Australian Pyrenees wine region, in northwest Victoria. The Australian Pyrenees shares its name with the range that divides France and Spain, and like that part of the world, is a prime wine-growing region. A name derived from our vineyard’s Warrenmang home, The MANG is a premium blend of Peerick’s finest hand picked Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Cabernet Franc grapes – culminating in an explosive and elegant red wine. Merlot and Cabernet dominate, making the MANG intense in flavour. It’s a bold companion to hearty dishes and richly celebrates our connection to the land. Our region’s traditional custodians, the Dja Dja Wurrung’s beliefs and dreamtime stories, together with the triskele from our Celtic culture symbolise our spiritual relationship to the earth, water, sky and its creatures.

The MANG 2019

The MANG is Peerick’s flagship premium red wine. A powerful blend of Merlot (43%) Cabernet Sauvignon (42%), Shiraz (10%) and Cabernet Franc (5%) all carefully selected and sourced from our Warrenmang vineyard. In limited release it is only produced during our best vintages. It is a demonstration of the highest quality wine our vineyard can produce. Only select parcels of our finest fruit are chosen for special wine making treatment before being matured in the finest French and American Oak for 18 months.
A powerful food wine. This full-bodied wine is best paired with red meat and hearty fare. Steak is the perfect complement. The boldness of the MANG compliments the umami in the meat and the wine’s grippy tannins are smoothed out by the dish’s fat content. Beyond this, you can get creative with your pairings. Recommended matches: Black pepper steak, Basque cheeses, roast potatoes and herby vegetable dishes. Pizza, chicken, pulled pork, and spicy Asian. Blackened chicken. Hard cheeses such as aged Cheddar, Gouda. Gorgonzola. Bitter edged veggies incl. broccoli, roasted brussel sprouts. Thyme roasted mushrooms. Polenta. Risotto. Double chocolate cake.
Wild yeast fermented, 15% whole bunch. Matured in 30% new and 1-5 year old French oak. Elegant, fruit friendly, deep and rich in substance and flavour. Black Currant, Cherry with eucalypt, mint and chocolate notes. Medium+ length.
Australian red blends like the MANG are known for their powerful flavour profile, intense structure, deep tannins and ripe berry flavour. They are suitable for ageing and most will benefit from some time decanting to allow them to “open up”. This premium blend has a slightly higher percentage of on Merlot making it more fruit-forward and approachable.
